Two of these reports indicated that a detached fan blade had hit someone, the commission said. Four reports state that a blade damaged property.
King of Fans noted that not all Mara ceiling fans are recalled. The CPSC said the recall applies to the company’s Mara ceiling fans with matte white, matte black, black and polished nickel finishes. The commission instructed consumers who purchased these items to stop immediately.
“If consumers observe the blade movement or uneven gaps between the blades and the fan or the movement of the clamp during inspection, consumers should immediately contact King of Fans for a free replacement ceiling fan,” the commission said.
King of Fans said the ceiling fan malfunctions were caused by “an insulated manufacturing defect with the mounting of the fan blade clamp to the fan flywheel.”
Home Depot confirmed by email that about 80,000 fans had been sold before taking them out of the stores. When it discovered the problem, the dealer said he voluntarily recalled the product and stopped the sales.
“We are committed to the safety and quality of our products,” a Home Depot spokesman said in an email.
