1798 new COVID cases, 15 deaths reported as a matter of laboratory reporting hit NJ numbers again

New Jersey on Sunday reported another 1,798 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 15 additional deaths as the number of New Jersey residents who received at least one dose of the vaccine approached 1 million.

But the numbers reported Sunday could change, government Phil Murphy warned in a tweet.

We are aware of an electronic reporting on laboratories that could affect today’s numbers. “These laboratories have been warned and we are working to resolve them as soon as possible,” Murphy said as he released the figures.

The state reported a similar issue on Feb. 8.

The number of coronavirus patients in hospitals in New Jersey dropped for the tenth consecutive day and dropped to 2,449 on Saturday night. This is 35% lower than a recent high of 3,802 on 23 December.

The nationwide transmission rate was 0.86, up from 0.84 the previous day. The rate increased on both weekends after gradually declining during the first 11 days of February. If the rate falls below 1, it indicates that the outbreak of the state is slowing down.

The nationwide positivity rate for tests available on Wednesday, the latest day, was 7.24% based on 48,018 tests.

Government Phil Murphy announced the update on social media while he will remain in quarantine after an unknown member of his family tested positive for the virus on Wednesday. Murphy said he tested negative Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the governor announced Friday that a limited number of parents in New Jersey will be allowed to see their children play indoor high school and youth sports again after being banned from the stands. The new rules limit participants to two parents or guardians per athlete for indoor games and competitions. But the total spectators may not exceed 35% of the room’s capacity or 150 people.

Officials also announced Friday that New Jersey has recorded five new cases of the highly contagious coronavirus variant first discovered in the UK, bringing the state’s total to 38.

New Jersey has now reported 665,197 positive cases of coronavirus from more than 9.9 million PCR tests in the more than 11 months since the outbreak of the state. 80,790 positive antigen tests were also performed. These cases are considered likely, and health officials have warned that positive antigen tests may overlap with the confirmed PCR tests, as they are sometimes given at the same time.

The state of 9 million people also reported that 22,454 residents died from complications related to COVID-19 – 20,208 confirmed deaths and 2,246 considered probable.

SCHOOL SUBJECTS

According to the latest figures, New Jersey reported 142 COVID-19 outbreaks in the school, resulting in 671 cases among students, teachers and school staff.

According to the state’s dashboard, the outbreaks – defined as cases in which it was confirmed that people contracted or transmitted the virus in the classroom or during academic activities – were reported.

These numbers do not include students or staff who are suspected of being infected outside the school, or cases that cannot be confirmed as outbreaks in the school. Although the numbers continue to rise every week, Murphy said the statistics for school outbreaks are lower than government officials expected when schools reopened for personal classes.

New Jersey defines school outbreaks as cases where contact detectives determined that two or more students or school staff caught or transmitted COVID-19 in the classroom or during academic activities at school.

There are about 1.4 million students and teachers across the country.
