15-year-old boy dies days after shooting in Arkansas High School

A 15-year-old boy who was shot earlier this week by another student at a high school in Arkansas has died, officials said Wednesday.

The teenager, identified by the Watson Chapel School District and his family as Daylon ‘DaeDae’ Burnett, has been in intensive care at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock since the shooting Monday.

He died Wednesday at 5:35 p.m. local time, Pine Bluff police officer Sergeant said. Richard Wegner told NBC News.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends,” the school district said in a post on its Facebook page.

According to police, another 15-year-old Burnett shot at 9:59 a.m. local time in a hallway outside Watson Chapel Junior High School’s headquarters. Authorities do not identify him because of his age. While the department did not disclose a motive in the shooting, DeFoor said the incident was ‘targeted’.

Monday was the first day back in personal classes for Watson Chapel students after days of distance education due to a water problem. Students at the junior high school went off again on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the shooting. They would return to personal lessons on Thursday.

“It is essential that all students make use of the many, many professionals who will be present to provide counseling and guidance to our students when they return to school,” the district said in a statement.

On Wednesday, a judge set the suspect’s mortgage at $ 1 million.

He was detained at the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of first-degree battery. No charge of murder has been filed. His next trial is on April 12.

It was not clear if he had a lawyer.
