WASHINGTON The White House said on Thursday that the $ 1,400 direct payments for most Americans funded by the U.S. bailout plan would appear in bank accounts as early as this weekend.

Press secretary Jen Psaki said the government would make the first direct deposits this weekend. She says payments will continue for the next few weeks.

President Joe Biden on Thursday signed the $ 1.9 billion US rescue plan in the Oval Office.

In addition to direct payments to individuals of $ 1400, the plan includes money to help distribute coronavirus vaccines, alleviate homeowners and tenants, reopen schools, provide assistance to state and local governments, and expand of the child tax credit, among others.
