14-year-old suspect arrested after deadly chase, accident in Tulsa

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 14-year-old boy led them on a 15-minute yacht Thursday afternoon and then destroyed near 21st and Garnett.

Troopers said the SUV on which the teenager is suspected of crashing had three people: 31-year-old Lanise Dade from Tulsa, along with a boy and a girl. Dade and the girl died, and the boy was injured.

Troopers reported that the crime attack started 15 kilometers away at the Fast Wash car wash in Coweta, where the video showed at least four people pulling up next to a truck while a man was vacuuming.

The video showed when the man ran the truck, one of the guys jumped in and drove off. Testimony video also showed the bakkie running a red light with law enforcement officers chasing it.

Tulsa District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler told News On 6 that because the chase ended in a fatal crash, the teenager could be charged with several crimes.

“If you are between 13 and 17 and commit murder in the first degree. In this case, the allegation, as I understand it, would elude an officer,” Kunzweiler said.

Kunzweiler said no charges have been filed and that the U.S. Attorney’s Office can handle this case if the suspects or victims are tribal members, who are currently under investigation.

He also explained that defendants aged 13 or 14 have the option to ask the court not to be tried as an adult.

“It is up to the judge to determine whether you are being treated as a juvenile offender or as a juvenile offender, or whether you are going to stay as an adult,” Kunzweiler said.

News On 6 reached the U.S. Attorney’s Office and a spokesman declined to comment on how federal prosecutors would handle a juvenile defendant.

Troopers did not disclose the name of the young suspect and said he was in Tulsa County Jail.
