People aboard a fast-sinking boat in Southern California jumped into the water when lifeboats arrived Sunday.
Fourteen people were rescued after the 41-foot Carver sank near Newport Beach, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.
The rescue took place near the entrance to Newport Beach Harbor around 2:45 p.m., the sheriff’s department said, and when the harbor patrol arrived, the boat was towed by a Good Samaritan but quickly sank.
Port patrols, lifeguards and other boats in the area rescued the 14 people. The cause of the slump is being investigated, the sheriff’s department said. No injuries were reported.
