12-year-old arrested for armed car racing in Washington, DC

A 12-year-old boy was arrested by police on Thursday after attempting multiple armed robberies in the Washington, DC area.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the boy attempted to hijack three vehicles and successfully hijacked a fourth car. The four incidents took place within an hour in Northeast DC on Thursday, March 4th.

According to police, the incidents started around 6.30pm when two suspects, one of whom swung a pistol, approached a person and told the driver to leave the vehicle.

“The victim did not listen and fled the scene,” police said in a statement.

About 45 minutes later, the suspects approached a second person who was sitting in their car. One of the suspects, who displayed a handgun, demanded that the man leave the vehicle. He refused the suspect’s order and left the scene.

Then, five minutes later, at 7.20pm, the couple made a third attempt and told an individual to give the keys to their car before the suspects fled the scene on foot.

In the fourth incident, the suspects approached a woman who was sitting in her car. One of the suspects with a gun demanded that the woman leave the vehicle. She obeyed and the suspects drove into the woman’s car.

Police said shortly afterwards ‘one of the suspects was arrested’ and the victim’s vehicle was recovered. A 12-year-old boy from Southeast DC was arrested and charged by police the same day. Officials said they were still looking for another suspect who was caught on camera.

Police said they are offering up to ten thousand dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
