Sister André, who is blind, told the Var-Matin newspaper that she did not even realize that she was infected with the coronavirus and that she was not worried when she received her positive diagnosis.

“No, I was not afraid, because I was not afraid to die … I am glad to be with you, but I would like to be somewhere else – join my big brother and my grandparents , “she said. said French BFM television.

David Tavella, a spokeswoman for the Sainte Catherine Labouré retirement village, said Sister André was being treated for the virus and was celebrating her birthday this week.

“She is very calm and is looking forward to celebrating her 117th birthday on Thursday,” Tavella was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Sister André was born on February 11, 1904, according to the Gerontology Research Group, and is the second oldest person in the world behind 118-year-old Kane Tanaka. She will reportedly spend her birthday with a smaller group of residents than usual due to COVID-19.
