We have Android applications for many, many topics. After all, people use their Android devices for a lot of different things. Many of these programs are fairly mainstream, while others are very niche. These niche apps work exceptionally well, but only for the few people who really need them.

Anyone can write a list of weird programs that do nothing. This list gives an ode to the amazing niche apps that work really well if you ever needed them. We could do a different amount of programs like this as soon as we encounter ten more in our adventures. You can also post ideas in the comments.

With all this out of the way: here are some fun, niche, weird apps for Android that are actually pretty good.

Easter Egg Collection in Android

Price: Free

As can be seen, this is a collection of all the Easter eggs from Android over the years. The app contains every Easter egg from Android Gingerbread (the first one) to Android 11. This is a fun app to see what all the Easter eggs look like and how they work. That’s basically all this app does. You choose the one you want, see it, and that’s it. You’ll probably only use this app once every few years, but it does exist, and it works well.

Embiggen

Price: Free

Embiggen is a solid app that also does one thing: you type text into it and it makes the text bigger. While it may sound useless with the first brush, there are real use cases for this app. You can type short messages in loud places and show them to someone in your area. The screenshots show that you can use them in a bar and get someone’s attention without walking to them. Super niche, right? However, it works very well and does what it says.

Fly with Gauss

Price: Free

Flying With Gauss is a developer in the Google Play Store with a collection of excellent, super niche applications. Some of the programs include Xash3D FWGS, Husky for Pleroma, CS16Client and several others. Most of the apps are engines to make Half-Life or Counter-Strike work on your phone with a variety of modes and game modes. The engine and mods work surprisingly well, as long as you provide your own game data. It’s very specific, but it seems like people really like it when they can find a situation to use it.

InstaMocks

Price: Free

InstaMocks is a neat little app that can take snapshots and then place them in the frame of the phone. There are 40 devices to choose from, and you can operate up to ten screenshots at a time. There is no use for this unless you are an app developer, a YouTuber or someone who posts on forums. The app works though, and the editing of the screenshot is quite enjoyable. There is still no real reason for the general public, but it does exist if you ever need it.

PhotoPills and SunSurveyor

Price: $ 9.99 and $ 7.99 respectively

PhotoPills and SunSurveyor do basically the same thing. They let photographers explore places based on when the sun goes down or rises. PhotoPills has a solar, moon and galaxy planner along with 2D, augmented reality and 3D mode. SunSurveyor has basically the same features. Both have a few things that set them apart, but it works great if you are planning a photo shoot to make a sunset or a sunrise.

RunPee

Price: Free with in-app purchases

RunPee is an app for moviegoers. This gives you the best time to take a pee break when watching a movie. It then fills you in on what you missed when you get back. Obviously, it is designed to watch movies in a theater because you can just keep quiet at home. However, RunPee can also tell you if there will be extra scenes at the end of the movie, so you know if you should hang around and wait or leave the cinema early. The app itself is in the midst of a big makeover, as previous versions definitely needed work.

Shark Tracker by Ocearch

Price: Free

Did you know that you can track the migration patterns of sharks through an Android app? It turns out you can only do this with this one. Researchers have spotted a bunch of sharks, and the app shows you where they are. It’s actually only useful for biologists, but it’s a fun app to play with, and it’s very informative. In fact, there are a lot of applications that track random things. Blitzortung, for example, continues lightning.

SpotAngels

Price: Free

SpotAngels is a parking app. It uses crowdsourcing to tell you where to find parking spaces, how much it costs and other possible parking barriers. For example, some people use the app to remind them to move their cars before a street cleaner arrives. You can also book parking offers and pay for some parking meters. This is of course for a specific type of person, but it is useful almost everywhere. You can also contribute if your area does not have enough data.

Web Alert

Price: Free

Web Alert is another type of reminder app. You say it should monitor a website, and it will notify you if the website changes. You can use it for all sorts of things. It can notify you when new articles are published on a website, when a price changes on a product you want, or even when you respond in a forum. Most sites now have official apps, but it’s cool to know that an app like this exists.

Wen 98 Simulator

Price: Free

Ever wanted to use Windows 98 for something? With this emulator you can just do it. Not only does it start in a Windows 98 environment, but you can also use many original Windows 98 programs. The tools include Internet Explorer, Minesweeper, Solitaire, Windows Media Player, Notepad and more. It also supports a mouse and a keyboard if you need it. We do not know who would need such a thing, but it’s here if you ever want it.
