10 amazingly long RPGs that will take forever to beat

RPGs (Role Playing Games) are the perfect genre of video games for those who enjoy putting hours upon hours on one title. Since the early days of games, RPGs, such as Final fantasy, Dropout, en Monster Hunter, were popular franchises for fans of video games because it takes a lot of time and effort to complete.

These games usually have main quests, almost and a number of secret Easter egg style quests that players can execute to make a game work at 100%. But which one of these games takes the longest time to complete?

10 Harvest Moon: back to nature (78 hours)

Harvest Moon: Back to nature is the first in the franchise not to be released on a Nintendo console, but rather on the original Playstation. Although the game retains many aspects of the N64 game, Harvest Moon 64, this iteration for the Playstation also introduced several new features and personalities. The game still holds true today, especially for retro gamers. It’s long, but by no means monotonous.

9 Pathfinder: Kingmaker (79 hours)

Pathfinder: Kingmaker is available on Steam as part of the Pathfinder: Kingmaker – Enhanced Plus Edition. It takes within the Pathfinder universe and is inspired by popular RPG franchises such as Dropout and Baldur’s Gate.

This puts the player on customizable guests where you need to take over the Stolen Lands. The game takes about 79 hours to defeat its main story, so if you want long lasting video games, this is a must.

8 Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (81.5 hours)

Also known as Persona 3, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 is oddly enough not the longest in the franchise. It was released as a Playstation 2 and PSP exclusive. The game puts players in the shoes of an orphan student visiting a new high school. In your transfer, your character is attacked by creatures known as shadows.

The game takes about 81.5 hours to complete, so it’s a must for gamers looking for value for money and story – driven JPRGs.

7 Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (82 hours)

Monster Hunter 4 was a commercial success for the Nintendo 3DS and one of the popular franchise’s best titles. Back in 2015, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate was released to fans in North America and is an improved version of the original Monster Hunter 4, boasts additional content and additional special features.

The game takes about 82 hours to beat, make Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate a decent long game for fans of long games.

6 Warhammer: Inquisitor (90 hours)

While Warhammer: Inquisitor received polarized reviews, the game is long and it takes 90 hours to complete the main story. The story is delightfully gloomy and puts players in the shoes of three different character classes.

The game itself plays out in a massive world, and exploration is most important if you are someone who enjoys getting extra hours out of a game. The game contains several dungeons, forests and villages that are explorable and also contains many text pages, which is great to read as it adds to the history of the story.

5 Rune Factory Frontier (90.5 hours)

Rune Factory 4 captured the hearts of Nintendo 3Ds and Nintendo Switch fans when it was released. But, Rune Factory Frontier is undoubtedly the longest entry in the franchise. This is the third game in the series released on the Nintendo Wii. It is strikingly similar to the Stardew Valley ffarming, by seeing players run a farm while unraveling a star plot.

The game contains four seasons during which there are different crops for players to plant, specific to each different season. The game is praised because it is at 90 odd hours long and that it is immersive and intriguing.

4 Persona 5 Royal (103 hours)

Persona 5 Royal has been praised and named a Leading Candidate for Best RPG in Game History. The story is captivating and long, but never feels like a burden to play. The main story itself is at most 103 hours long.

However, if you are a completion, you have added hours of play to complete all the extra content. If you haven’t played it yet, this is the Royal edition you should pick up, as it features a bunch of new, additional characters, a new semester at Shugin Academy as well as depth in the main story.

3 Dragon Warrior VII (107 hours)

Whether you are a fan of the original Dragon Warrior VII or the remake Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the forgotten past, both games are ridiculously long. It will take you approximately 107 hours to beat through a single pass.

The game allows players to decide on the protagonist’s names as they travel through the game as one of the strongest fighters, and features a mysterious plot, in which players can easily lose themselves.

2 Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (122 hours)

Most titles in the Monster Hunter franchise is significantly long and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is no different. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the North American iteration of Monster Hunter Portable 2G, and it will take about 700 hours to complete all the content.

If you are a player who just wants to complete the main stories, the game is still good value for money as the main story can be completed in an average of 122 hours.

1 Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius (220 hours)

The Final fantasy franchise is a household name among casual and hardcore players. It has been praised over the years for its star storytelling and RPG aspects.

Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius is the series’ longest entry. It takes an average of 220 hours to complete the main story, and the mobile version is impossible to beat in one session. The game lasts as long as seven days to beat if you play a 24-hour session, which is impossible.
