1 killed, 1 injured in shooting at Wisconsin mall; suspect fled

Police say one person was killed and another was slightly injured in a shooting at a shopping mall in northern Wisconsin.

Police were called to the Fox River Mall in Grand Chute, a suburb of Appleton, at about 3:30 p.m. The unidentified shooter remained at flyhalf Sunday night, authorities said.

Grand Chute Police Officer Travis Waas did not identify any of the victims.

Wass said the shooter left the mall before officers arrived. Police said they interviewed witnesses and followed clues. No motive was immediately disclosed.

Photos of the scene showed officers, some in tactical gear, acting outside the mall and apparently walking customers out with their hands in the air.

Haylie Mirr, who works at a mall called Box Lunch, said she knew nothing about the shooting, but said: ‘People just started running. We just locked the doors, and we had four customers in the store and brought them to our back room. ‘

They were still waiting for the cleaning almost three hours later.

Grand Chute is a town of about 22,000 on the outskirts of Appleton, about 160.93 miles north of Milwaukee.
