MADISON, Wis. Wisconsin saw a sharp increase in new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, according to the latest data from the state Department of Health Services.

Health officials reported 886 new cases of the virus, nearly tripling the number of cases Monday. The seven-day moving average also increased to 634.

The state has reached a total of 581,070 confirmed cases, and more than 7,500 of them are active. Although the number of cases rose Tuesday, vaccine rollout is still expanding in Wisconsin.

Government Tony Evers has announced that the Alliant Energy Center will receive federal support to broaden its mass vaccination site. The site can vaccinate as many as 1,400 people a day.

To date, more than 3.1 million doses of the vaccine have been administered throughout Wisconsin, including 29,310 in the past day.

More than 33% received at least one dose, consisting of 1 944 054 inhabitants. The DHS said 20.4% were fully vaccinated, or 1,185,478 Wisconsinites. A quarter of Dane County residents have completed the vaccine range.

The positivity rate continued to creep up as the seven-day average percentage positive per test rose slightly to 3.5%.

At least 6,648 have died from coronavirus complications, with eight new deaths confirmed on Tuesday. An additional 72 people have been admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours, more than doubling the number of hospitalizations Monday.
