Emergency personnel responded Thursday afternoon after two people were shot in a vehicle near Goleta.
According to Lt. Erik Raney of the Sheriff’s Department in Santa Barbara County, one person was pronounced dead at the scene
Delegates from the sheriff, firefighters from the province and ambulances from AMR were sent to the 600 block of Burtis Street near Hollister Primary School shortly after 12:30.
They found two victims in a vehicle, a late-model Audi sedan, Raney said.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Delegates set up a perimeter around the scene in search of a single suspect who fled on foot, Raney said.
He added that the suspect – described as a white man in his 20s with dark hair, who may be wearing blue jeans and a gray shirt – is considered ‘armed and dangerous’.
A sheriff’s helicopter and K-9 crews were reportedly brought in to help with the search.
Meanwhile, a shelter-in-place order is being issued for residents south of Hollister Avenue, between Patterson Avenue and Turnpike Road.
In the area, there was a backup to Atascadero Creek and then More Mesa, and delegates were looking for a suspect in the area.
The shooting was reported by a youth who ran into the Hollister school office, Raney said.
Additional details were not immediately available.
