WrestleMania 37 preview: Bad Bunny & Damian Priest vs. Miz & Morrison

Mark team match

Bad Bunny’s first WWE appearance made fans of the wrestling say “who? On his way to WrestleMania 37, he said, “wow!” Miz was a great help.

The road to WrestleMania 37

Pop culture is increasingly being silenced in the modern world, and wrestling fans are no exception. When Spotify’s most famous artist of 2020 is announced Royal Rumble, many of the WWE universe made jokes. Even those who knew from his collaboration with Stone Cold and Booker T that Bunny was ‘one of us’ did not expect to do more than perform his song on Book at the ThunderDome and go back to making music .

But as soon as he and Miz looked sideways on January 31st, we all felt that something could happen.

A WrestleMania guesthouse probably looked like it was from there, but not many expected Bad Bunny to appear along the road most Mondays. The Puerto Rican superstar was a game for anything, from the driver for his kayfabe friend Damian Priest’s matches, to winning the 24/7 championship (which he eventually swapped for a replica belt, and the scene unbeaten left) to the cutting of promotions and stamps.

Throughout, Miz was constant. WWE knew what they were doing, and typed the A-Lister for this role. The Grand Slam champion is not a stranger in the spotlight and is not reluctant to play the fool if Vince McMahon asks him to. Miz is also a safe worker, someone who can trust the company to protect the Grammy winner he works with and not get hurt himself and force them to call a ‘Mania audible. He is also easy to row, which can help counter any “part-time” setback Bunny experiences.

Even without crowds, it seems like they do not really have to worry about it themselves. The 27-year-old from Vega Baja’s love for the business permeated (and in case it was not, they had Priest and others ready to tell the press how hard he worked to earn the locker room’s respect and impress the audience).

It was never clearer than in last Monday’s go home show. After weeks of insults (and guitar recordings), Miz & John Morrison jumped Bunny and threw paint on his ride. When he realized that he could not handle the former Tag champions alone, he named Priest as a partner. And cut a hell of a promo … in its second language, no less!

With that, Saturday’s game becomes a remarkable game. And a man who loves this business will have three talented collaborators to help him make a moment on the Biggest Stage of them all.

What’s at stake

No matter how well done it is, or how much Bad Bunny has impressed, it’s a still ‘Mania game with a celebrity. If it delivers the build, everyone involved wins. If not, some naysayers will make jokes, and we will all move on.

Whatever, Bunny will win, because like he said, he will live out his dream. If he does more than that, WWE is a big winner, because media stores worldwide will show clips of a megastar appearing on the map in a wrestling ring.

And The Awesome One will just be there to make sure it all comes together, to ensure Vince needs a WrestleMania moment next time, he asks The Miz.
