The game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Brooklyn Nets scheduled for Monday night has been postponed following the police shooting at Daunte Wright on Sunday night in the suburb of Brooklyn Center, the NBA Announced Monday. The match can rather be played on Tuesday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. At present, no final decision has been made.

From the NBA:

The National Basketball Association announced today that tonight’s game between Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center has been postponed in light of the tragic events in the Minneapolis area yesterday. The decision to postpone was taken by the NBA after consultation with the Timberwolves organization and local and government officials. Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Daunte Wright during these difficult times.

Wright, 20, died after being shot dead by a Minnesota police officer. The Brooklyn Center police chief casually described the incident, saying the officer tried to shoot Wright with a taser, as opposed to a gun. The incident occurred while Minnesota police were trying to arrest Wright on an outstanding warrant. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident. Demonstrations over Wright’s death are expected to take place in downtown Minneapolis.

In addition to the game against the Timberwolves against the Nets, the NHL game between Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues, scheduled for Monday night, also postponed, as did the MLB game between the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox. “Yesterday’s tragic event, in relation to the life of Daunte Wright, makes our community mourn again. After consultation with the league and local and government officials, we believe that tonight’s postponement against the Brooklyn Nets is the best decision,” has Timberwolves said in a statement.
