A hopeful spaceship reality competition called ‘Space Hero’ has signed a Space Act agreement with NASA, but that does not mean it will start going into space yet.
Space Hero ‘is the world’s first global casting show where contestants compete for a trip to the International Space Station,’ on a mission hosted by Axiom Space, the contest claims in an email statement. And on Monday (April 12), the company hosting the competition signed a Space Act agreement with NASA.
However, this agreement “does not authorize a private astronaut mission to the International Space Station,” a NASA spokesman told Space.com. On the contrary, it is a “non-refundable space law agreement aimed at facilitating initial cooperation and exchange of information between NASA and Space Hero,” the spokesman said.

“A decision for a long-term partnership outside of this initial feasibility study covered under the agreement will require additional agreement (s) pending approval, dissemination and funding of the draft,” the NASA representative added. “If approved by NASA, the private astronaut mission and related commercial activities will be undertaken as part of a separate, future agreement between NASA and a private provider of space missions.”
In essence, the representative added, “we will assess the feasibility of their mission, but they will have to make the agreement with Axiom as a private astronaut mission provider, and then Axiom will have to propose and be selected for that private astronaut mission.” The spokesperson soon published the text of the space law agreement between the two partners.
Space Hero hopes to be ‘the world’s first global competition to send a civilian into space on a $ 55 million journey, ten days after the ISS [International Space Station]”according to the statement.
The reality show competition will be open to anyone who is fluent in English and over 18, and the competition hopes to have its first winner (s) flown in 2023. The organizers of the game added in the statement that the mission’s and interactive live stream. “Subsequently, Space Hero intends to present 15 seasons of the show over the next 30 years and take winners outside the space station to the moon and Mars, the statement said.
Currently, the company has not announced which launch or spacecraft it plans to use for the mission.
The competition’s co – founder and co – CEO, Deborah Sass, hopes to receive a variety of applicants. “Equality is our mission. We encourage women and men from around the world to apply to become the Space Hero. This competition is a safe environment for all. Do not allow gender to be an obstacle,” said Sass. said in the statement.
Space Hero seems to be following in the footsteps of other space contests, making headlines, including Inspiration4, which aims to launch the newly announced crew of four on Earth in a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. The mission is funded by billionaire American Jared Isaacman. And there’s dearMoon, a flight funded by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, which aims to send humans around the moon and back to Earth with SpaceX’s new spacecraft Starship.
