South Carolina on Sunday saw a one-day high for new cases of coronavirus, with more than 4,000 reported.
According to government officials, the state reported 4,370 new cases by Dec. 25, with the delay due to the state’s policy of not reporting on major holidays. On Christmas Eve, the Department of Health and Environmental Control reported 2,550 new cases and 14 deaths.
The department also reported a test positivity rate of 23.5 percent on Sunday.

In the Palmetto state, a coronavirus increased in December and a total of 288,892 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The state reported a total of 5,124 deaths.
Last week, Governor Henry McMaster (R) announced that he had tested positive shortly after his wife Peggy announced that she had been diagnosed days before.
“Peggy and I call on everyone to be extra careful during the Christmas holidays,” the governor said in a statement last Tuesday. “This virus spreads very easily.”
McMaster isolated himself after the first lady tested positive and, according to his office, had no close contact in the 48-hour period before his own positive test.
