The Seattle Seahawks are NFC West champions, thanks to a masterful second-half performance by Russell Wilson and a resurgent defense in a 20-9 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Wilson had two touchdowns (one pass, one run) in the second half to lead the Seahawks offense and finished 225 yards out after being held in check by a strong Rams front in the first half.
The game was tied 6-6 at halftime, but Wilson linked on a 45-yard pass to David Moore and beat Carlos Hyde on an 18-yard pass on third-and-9 to set up the Seahawks ‘first offense -‘ a four-run that gave Seattle the lead at 13-6. The Seahawks defense took over from there, keeping the Rams up 155 yards and three points the rest of the way, with the big game coming via a fourth downhill stop at the 1-yard line, leading to ‘ a turnover on descents of the Rams. and set the tone for the Seahawks victory.
Wilson led the Seahawks on a nine-time, 80-yard drive to secure the win, and connected on a 13-pass to Jacob Hollister to put Seattle ahead 20:59 with 2:51 left. The Seahawks settled on two of their three red-zone tournaments, while the Rams were unable to convert any of their red-zone efforts.
The Seahawks clinched the NFC West and are the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs, which is the highest seed they can be. The Rams must win against the Cardinals next week to secure a playoff spot and could still miss the post-season with a loss in Week 17.
