Report: Broncos Will Follow Deshaun Watson If Texans Decide to Trade Him

USA TODAY Sports

As the Broncos continue to look for their first franchise full-back since Peyton Manning, they reportedly have their eyes on Deshaun Watson.

According to Troy Renck of ABC 7 in Denver, the Broncos will pursue Watson, if the Texans decide to trade him.

The wording of the report is intriguing. If taken literally, it means the Broncos will not make an offer until the Texans indicate that offers are accepted.

Why not reject an offer by Houston to announce that they will trade Watson? If the Texans finally get an offer, they can not refuse, maybe they are smart enough not to refuse it. (Or maybe not.)

The fact that the Broncos were able to send Drew Lock to Houston as part of the package cannot do any harm. Lock ignited the Texans in December 2019 and caused a significant uproar in NRG Stadium over a playoff team led by Watson. Maybe a few first rounds and Lock will get the deal.

Regardless, if the Broncos plan to wait until the Texans officially open the market before making an offer, the Broncos could wait a while. To keep Watson away from the Texans, the Broncos may have to insist on the problem.
