Redmi K40 can be re-branded for the worldwide release of Poco

Xiaomi Redmi K40 Pro Series

  • According to a model number and IMDA presentation, it appears that Poco may rebrand the Redmi K40 for its own release.
  • It would be another time for Poco to rename a Redmi device rather than release his own.
  • Poco has announced that it will become an “independent brand” in 2020, although it has released few unique phones since.

Back in January 2020, Xiaomi subsidiary Poco announced that it would become an independent brand. This was a welcome announcement as the brand pretty much floundered after the launch of its very popular Poco F1 phone.

Since the announcement, however, the so-called independent company has made a habit of releasing the brands of Redmi devices. Redmi is another subsidiary of Xiaomi. It is not clear how this equates to independence.

Regardless, evidence strongly indicates (via XDA Developers) that at least one phone in the newly announced Redmi K40 series could soon land worldwide as a Poco device. It follows the Poco F2 Pro, Poco X2 and Poco M2 Pro, all of which have been reformatted the Redmi phones.

The evidence suggests that a Poco branded K40 phone comes from the Singapore certification body IMDA. It shows a Poco branded phone with specifications identical to the Redmi K40. Furthermore, it has a model number (M2012K11AG) that is identical to the Redmi phone, except for the final letter, which goes from “C” to “G”. We expect the “C” to stand for “China” and the “G” for “Global”.

While there is nothing wrong with rebranding Poco phones for world markets, it seems silly to do a big job on independence when in fact it is not. Either way, if you’re interested in grabbing the latest Poco brand soon, the Redmi K40 is probably what you’ll be getting.
