OnePlus has an event scheduled for March 23, where the OnePlus 9 series and its first smartwatch will be launched. Despite this, the company still shares information about its upcoming devices, and the unveiling of the Pro model today includes an adjustable refresh rate that can increase from 1-120Hz.
The company said on its forums that it will feature the OnePlus 9 Pro Fluid Display 2.0 which will feature a QHD + resolution, 10-bit color depth with a billion colors, HDR10 + certification and automatic color temperature adjustment. It will also be integrated with LTPO (low temperature polycrystalline oxide) back surface technology.

“A major breakthrough in display technology, and LTPO is dynamically adjusting the refresh rate from 120Hz to 1Hz – lower than anyone in the industry – based on your content,” said OnePlus. “The screen scales the power requirements intelligently and efficiently, resulting in a significant reduction in power consumption at a lower refresh rate.”
OnePlus said that the 9 Pro can automatically switch to the most suitable refresh rate according to the operation performed on the screen, and that it can go up to 1Hz for things like viewing photos. The company claims that the OnePlus 9 Pro is the first phone to achieve a customizable refresh rate of 120Hz to 1Hz. However, this is not the first phone with an OLED screen that has an LTPO backplane for a QHD + resolution and variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2, Note 20 Ultra and S21 Ultra were the first phones with OLED panels and variable refresh rates.

OnePlus said the 9 Pro will also support up to 6x faster sync speeds between the screen and the processor for enhanced touch response. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau shared a Tweet claiming that the screen of OnePlus 9 Pro is more responsive than the one found on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The company claims that the delay in games has been reduced by 25-30 ms, which is a noticeable difference in fast games like PUBG Mobile.
The launch event of the OnePlus 9 series takes place on March 23rd. At this point, it’s more formal, as OnePlus has already revealed important details, but we’m still excited to see what the company still has up its sleeve.
