Nurse reportedly stole two doses of COVID-19 vaccine

According to a new report, a Detroit nurse was trapped when she wiped two doses of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine this week.

The unidentified nurse was arrested on Monday when another employee saw her walking away from her work area in the TCF center – a conference center that now serves as a vaccination site – with two syringes of the vaccine, reports WJBK.

The employee notified security and Detroit police. When authorities tried to confront her, she apparently refused to answer questions and requested a lawyer, according to the report.

Now she could face criminal charges and even lose her license.

Hakim Berry, chief operating officer for the city of Detroit, said he was “really shocked” about the nurse’s actions.

“I do not know what your motives were,” he said of the nurse. “And hopefully you can understand the seriousness of what you did.”

The nurse is not affiliated with a hospital and is likely affiliated with a staffing agency that helps bring nurses to TCF, according to WJBK.

According to strict security protocols in the center, the nurse could be caught before she could leave the building with the stolen syringes, Berry said.

‘Our vaccines are stored outside the premises in a very safe place that frightens and [there is] 24-7 security around it, ”he said. “When vaccines are brought from a pharmacy to the nurse’s station, they are accompanied by security officers.”

Medical supplies are seen in the TCF center.

Since January 13, a total of 109,000 people have been vaccinated, according to TC Berry.

The federal government has provided the doses to the city’s health department, Detroit News reported.

Detroit police are continuing their investigation, Chief James Craig told the outlet.
