Alabama has not yet made the hiring of Bill O’Brien official, but head coach Nick Saban sounds like it’s a final deal.

O’Brien is expected to start training again in Tuscaloosa as the national champion’s new attacking coordinator, replacing Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian leaves to become head coach at the University of Texas.

The Texans fired O’Brien as general manager and head coach in October after a 0-4 start. O’Brien, who was appointed head coach before the 2014 season, won 52-48 in Houston.

‘I think he has a really good job in houston when he was the head coach, ‘Saban told Brandon Kyle Scott of Sports Radio 610 in Houston.’ I think when he became the general manager, things might not have gone exactly as he would have liked, trying to have both roles. Having been a head coach in the league, I know how hard it is to do both, probably impossible. ‘

‘So based on the work up to and including [becoming G.M.]I think he is an excellent coach and a very good person. He has a wonderful family, and I think he will do an excellent job with our players here. I have always tried to have the best knowledge and experience for our players and their development, and I definitely think he can contribute to that in a very positive way. ”
