Michigan Wolverines QB Joe Milton enters NCAA transfer portal

Michigan quarterback Joe Milton made his name in the Transportation Portal on Thursday. The third-year quarterback will take another three years into consideration, as the NCAA has granted an extra year and Milton has not yet used his red shirt season.

Milton was an ESPN 300 prospect in the 2018 class, described as raw and time consuming to develop, and played in four games in his first season.

After playing four games in 2019, Milton was named as the starter to open the 2020 season. He helped lead Michigan to a win over Minnesota in the opening competition, completing 15 of 22 passes for 225 yards and one offense.

He won the next two games for both 644 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions against the state of Michigan and Indiana. Eventually he is replaced by Cade McNamara, who has started the last two games of the season for Michigan.

Michigan made changes to its coaching staff during the off-season that would affect the position and settled with coach Ben McDaniels. Head coach Jim Harbaugh now plans to work with the full-backs and also added Mike Hart and Ron Bellamy, the full-backs coach, to coach the wide receivers.

The Wolverines will still have McNamara in the rankings and have added JPN McCarthy, the ESPN 300 fullback, in this 2021 cycle. McCarthy is the overall number 25 ranking link and the second place back player number 2.

Milton transitions as a graduate transfer and is immediately eligible for whatever program he chooses.
