Miami (FL) quarterback D’Eriq King suffered an injury to his right leg late Tuesday night in the second quarter of the Cheez-It Bowl game against Oklahoma State in Orlando. King rose to the right from Oklahoma State’s first 14-yard line goal, and when he tried to stun a defender in space, he injured his knee when he planted it in the ground. He dives forward and is tackled on the 9-year-old line of Cowboys.

King was a 20.5-pound parent and stayed for a few minutes before being helped to the injury tent by two trainers. He was then escorted by the coaches to the locker room while clearly benefiting his right knee. The ESPN broadcast reported shortly after the start of the second half that King would not return after the game and that he would be further evaluated upon the team’s return to Miami. He returned to the field late in the third term with street clothes. He was on crutches and had a knee brace on his right knee.

King, who transferred from Houston before this season, announced this week that he will take advantage of the free year of acquisition and return to Miami for his sixth season of college football instead of for the NFL. In his first season with the ‘Canes’ he had 2,573 runs, 520 runs, 22 runs and four runs.

N’Kosi Perry came on for King and completed a drive that led to a field goal that gave the Cowboys a 21-10 lead. before rest.
