Marcus Mariota is happy to be able to stay ahead as part of the Las Vegas Raiders, despite taking a salary cut from the team.

Via Rob DeMello of KHON2, Mariota said that the chance to stay with the Raiders overcomes any problems over the reduction of his salary for the coming season.

‘I think at the end of the day. I focus on controlling what I can control, ”said Mariota. ‘This is the product in the field. Every day when I wake up, I exercise and get ready. At the end of the day, we are very blessed to play this game. Many of us earn a very good amount of money. For me, I just love playing the game. The excitement, the opportunity to be a Raider, overcame it all. Being here in Vegas, being part of this organization meant a lot more to me. I’m excited to be back. ”

Mariota has accepted a deal that has reduced his salary from $ 10.725 million to just $ 3.5 million for this season. It does contain incentives for him to earn up to $ 8 million if he gets the chance to play and achieve performance goals. This is a pretty big piece he chose to give up to ensure he stays with the Raiders.

‘I think at the end of the day, the adversity, the challenges you face, will finally develop who you are. I’m just excited to hopefully get over the hump. I feel like I have been healed. I had the opportunity to have a little stability, something that was quite elusive in my career. I’m just excited to be in a comfortable place. I am confident. I will just do everything I can to help win this team, ”said Mariota.
