Liverpool owner John W Henry was forced to apologize after the European Super League reached a crisis point.
Henry named the Premier League champion as one of the 12 founding members for the competition, which would give a huge financial boost.
However, the closed shop nature of the tournament led to widespread condemnation, with the Reds eventually becoming one of nine teams to confirm their intention to leave.
In a lengthy statement, Henry confirmed that Fenway Sports Group will continue to do everything for the benefit of the club, which will surely be music to Jurgen Klopp’s ears.
The German will be desperate for funds in the summer window to help close the gap in champions Manchester City.

Perez makes Mbappe admission

According to Sky Sports Germany, the legendary David Alaba from Bayern Munich is ready to end the speculation about his next destination and join Real Madrid.
The Austrian has been linked with the Reds, along with a number of Premier League clubs after announcing he would leave Germany.
But it has now been reported that the versatile defender will join Los Blancos on a five-year contract that will be announced in the coming weeks.

Caleta-Car on the market
Liverpool were heavily linked with Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car in the January transfer window, only to see the French club apparently pull the plug on a possible deal.
However, it is now claimed that the Ligue 1 kit is ready to listen to offers for Caleta-Car if the Reds revive their interest.
After extensive ties with the 24-year-old did not lead to a move, Klopp stepped in under the sign of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak, while the latter was loaned out for the rest of the campaign.
But the Reds boss is likely to be in the market for further defensive reinforcements after watching their title defense diminished by injuries.
RMC Sport (via Metro) claims that Marseille will not stand in the way of Caleta-Car to complete a move to a club that the player himself described as ‘one of the biggest in the world’.
