New Lions general manager Brad Holmes continues to clean up the mess he inherited from former Lions general manager Bob Quinn.

The Lions cut fullback Chase Daniel and defensive tackle Danny Shelton, reports Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Although the Lions allegedly tried to trade Daniel, there was no reason for any team to trade for the $ 4.55 million the Lions owed him. Daniel will receive a $ 3 million kill for the Lions this year.

Shelton would earn a base salary of $ 4 million this season, and he had a $ 1.25 million kill instead.

Holmes is radically revising the Lions roster Quinn has built over the past five years. The Lions are moving away from overpaid veterans this year in an effort to get better next year.
