Kelsey Grammer returns as Dr Frasier Crane as Paramount + confirms ‘Frasier’ Reboot – Deadline

Dr. Frasier Crane is officially returning.

Kelsey Grammer is confirmed to be repeating his role as the psychiatrist in Seattle as a radio host, in a reload of long-running comedy Frasier for Paramount +.

Julie McNamara announced the revival during the launch of the streaming service at ViacomCBS.

The new incarnation of Frasier comes from authors Chris Harris (How I met your mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life in pieces), which will co-produce with Grammer. The series is produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Grammnet Productions.

“After spending more than 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, producing both shows and performing in various shows, I want to congratulate Paramount + on joining the streaming world,” Grammer said. “I look forward to sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

‘Younger’ to finish seventh season will premiere on Paramount +

For the past few years, Grammer has been reviving the series, which originally aired 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004 on NBC. The program, created by David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee, also starred David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin and the late John Mahoney.

Paramount + has not revealed any other talent for the recharge, though Deadline understands that Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier’s brother Niles, was approached about the return.

The streamer has not set a date for the series, but since Grammer in an ABC multi-camera comedy starring Alec Baldwin from Modern family co-creator / executive producer Chris Lloyd and Vali Chandrasekaran, it is unlikely that the new Frasier installment starts until 2022.

Grammer played the pedantic doctor in three series – Cheers and Frasier with a crossover on Wings – the record of the longest television character.

The original Frasier will also be available via Paramount + next door Cheers and a slew of other comedies.

Frasier is one of the most award-winning comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling, ”said David Stapf, president of CBS Studios. ‘There has long been a call from fans to return, and the call is now being answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer repeating his iconic role of Dr Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can not wait to announce the next chapter on Paramount +. ”

Grammer is represented by UTA and Vault Entertainment.
