Houston officer accused of entering Capitol during riot calls for privacy

HOUSTON A Houston police officer accused of entering the U.S. Capitol during last week’s riots called for privacy on Thursday.

Officer Tam Pham, an 18-year-old Houston police veteran, resigned Thursday morning.

Pham spoke briefly to the media when he arrived home on Thursday afternoon.

“Please, just give my family privacy,” Pham said. “It’s a really hard time.”

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said Wednesday that Pham attended the rally that President Donald Trump hosted in Washington last week and then “invaded” the Capitol building during a riot that left five people dead.

Acevedo said he was “very confident” that Pham would face federal charges in connection with the allegations and that he had given the information he had gathered to the FBI.

“There is no excuse for criminal activity, especially not from a police officer,” Acevedo said. “I can not tell you the anger over the thought that a police officer and other police officers think they are going to storm the Capitol or the members of the secret service.”

Pham told the Houston Chronicle he was only there to take pictures.
