First, Toyota claims that the GR 86 is 15 pounds lighter than the BRZ. The carmaker also says that the version of the 2.4-liter engine has a compression ratio of 12.5: 1 instead of the 13.5: 1 of the BRZ. Despite this drop in compression, it apparently still has four horsepower – 232 versus the BRZs 228. Again, this is probably just some JDM peculiarity, but who am I kidding, you guys like such things. The GR 86 is theoretically slightly faster than the BRZ? It’s a kind of discourse for lunch in primary school that never leaves the shorter brains of car lovers like us. On paper, one car is faster than the other. This is reason for a heated argument over a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (cut diagonally with the crust cut off).
Obviously, the Toyota gets different license plates, but the interior of both cars looks like the brand change. In addition, we know little. Toyota has not yet announced prices for the GR 86, just as Subaru has yet to announce prices for the BRZ. Both cars are expected to sell for $ 31,000 Edmunds, but the number is not official.
Earlier this year, the GR 86 was reportedly delayed because Toyota’s CEO wanted the car to be more like a Toyota, and less like a Subaru – whatever that means. As such, we would expect more than a change at the front and a few kilograms here and there to distinguish the two models. We hope Toyota clears this up sooner rather than later.
