After the Giants did business against the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon, Giants fans prepared everywhere for a night of forced support from the Eagles’ divisional game against the Washington Football Team. A win over Eagles, and New York will be your NFC East champion.
Instead, Philadelphia showed little interest in winning the game.
The Eagles lost 20-14 in a game that was marred by dubious decision-making at the point that was indicative of a team that was very aware that it could secure a better place for the concept through an otherwise meaningless game to lose.
Philadelphia opted for an attempt at game goals toward the end of the third quarter, and eventually turned it down. With his next possession, Doug Pederson turned on full-back Jalen Hurts – who scored the team’s only assists of the night – in favor of Nate Sudfeld, who has been in the squad for four seasons and has previously appeared in just three games. Eventually, the Eagles jumped along the side of a fourth and inch in Washington’s clock kill drive late in the game and essentially sealed their fate.
Predictably, those in the league had a few thoughts while undertaking such a blatant tank operation, including Giants players. Check out the best of the quick responses:
