Former Notre Dame star and NFL player Louis Nix III dies at 29

Former Notre Dame defender Louis Nix III, who spent three seasons in the NFL with multiple franchises from 2014-16, was found dead in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday after earlier this week, the Fighting Irish, if reported missing. Sunday announced. Nix was 29 years old.

Nix’s family confirmed his death to CBS Sports and local media in Jackson.

Nix’s mother reported her son missing on Friday. She said he was last seen Tuesday when he left his father’s home in Jacksonville. Nix and his mother talk often, which is why she told Ben Becker of WJAX-TV that her son’s sudden lack of communication was extraordinary for him.

The Jacksonville sheriff announced Saturday night that they had “tracked down” Nix, but did not release any further information. The announcement came in less than an hour to the authorities. a vehicle pulled from a dam which corresponds to the description of Nix’s vehicle in a call earlier in the day to help him find.

Nix was recently shot while putting air in his tires in December 2020. His mother said she did not believe the incident was related to his disappearance. However, she said Nix was reluctant to leave his home and kept a close eye on his surroundings. He was operated on after the shooting and said on Twitter that the bullet had pulled down his sternum and into his lung.

Nix left Notre Dame for the 2013 season, and Nix jumped around with four teams in three seasons, most recently the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016. He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft after 122 dives and 14 TFLs during his time with the Fighting Irish.
