Famous French designer Pierre Cardin dies at 98

Pierre Cardin, the French designer whose Space Age style was one of the iconic looks of 20th-century fashion, has died at 98, the French Academy of Fine Arts said.

Cardin’s name is a licensee who has embossed numerous products from wrist watches to bedding, making his label one of the most famous in the world.

In the heyday of the brand in the seventies and eighties, its products were sold worldwide at about 100,000 stores, although the number decreased dramatically in later decades.

A smart businessman, Cardin, used his amazing wealth to take over properties in Paris, including the Belle Epoque restaurant Maxim’s. He was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in 1992.

The academy has its death in a tweet Tuesday.
