“Colleagues of mine who I have known for decades – decades – in that one experience, because I was in the White House, decided that I became this political person, even though they knew me forever,” she said. “I had to ask myself every morning: is there anything I think I can do that would be helpful in responding to this pandemic? And it’s something I asked myself every night.”
Asked if she ever considered quitting, she replied, “Always.”
Birx admitted during the interview that she knew the election result would be a factor in the government’s communication about the pandemic.
“When it was a point where I could – I got nowhere and it was just before the election, I wrote a very detailed communication plan about what should happen the day after the election and how it should be carried out. . And there was a lot of promise that it would happen, ‘she said, adding that she never withheld information herself.
In December, Birx told Newsy that she would help with the transition to the Biden government and that she would be “helpful in any role in which people think I can be helpful, and then I will retire.”
