Dead by Daylight’s new update remasters half the game, adding color-blind settings

Death by daily getting ready for the latest generation of consoles, and developer Behavior Interactive is working on a significant amount of the game with its “Realm Beyond” update. The update brings major visual changes to 21 maps, 12 objects that populate the maps (such as totems), and a number of minor changes to character animations and visual effects.

According to Mathieu Côté, game director for Death by daily, Realm Beyond is a beacon. Behavior is ‘halfway through the graphical update process’, and the whole project lasts until ‘mid-next year’, Côté said, although he could not determine a specific release window. The new cards will continue to receive adjustments and changes as players play through matches and give feedback on behavior. The developer has already adjusted the lighting to prevent things from getting also dark, and is ready to further change the levels for balance changes or bug fixes.

The cards also now have few details that match the game’s increasingly intricate gameplay, so fans who keep the story behind all the chaos and murder can watch Easter eggs and tips.

Killers like the Clown and the Nurse have already been visually updated, and these changes will continue. ‘We prioritize the oldest models for visual reproduction. “Some of them were done in a completely different style of texture – we call it picturesque, so it was more of a cartoonish feature than realistic,” says Côté. “We make sure you can recognize the silhouette and what makes the character stand out.”

The Realm Beyond focuses on the most important parts of the killer’s appearance, such as their model and visual effects. The Clown’s guest is now more visible and clear. However, there are no current plans to update their unique Memento Mori animations.

Finally, Death by daily players can adjust the color blind settings with the Realm Beyond update. There will be settings for players adapting to consider deuteranope (inability to observe green light), protanope (inability to observe red light) and tritanope (inability to observe blue light). It’s useful with the game’s user interface and the ‘scratch marks’ that survivors leave behind when fleeing a killer, and it should make the game much more accessible.
