Dallas flights established as an air traffic controller with 3 positive Covid tests within a week are being cleared

Two Dallas airports have temporarily halted incoming and outgoing flights due to a Covid-19 sanitation at an air traffic control tower.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, flights were scheduled for Wednesday at Dallas Love Field and Dallas-Fort Worth International airports. A tweet from DFW states that the interruption was due to a “required cleaning of the FAA facilities that control the airspace” around the airport.

“This will result in possible delays and cancellations,” DFW tweeted.

The FAA told NBC Dallas the interruption was a combination of weather and Covid-19 issues.

An online dashboard for the FAA’s facilities showed staff tested positive in the Fort Worth Traffic Control Center three times in the past week, including a new positive Wednesday. The dashboard also states that the air tower had to be cleaned between 15:00 and 17:30 local time.

Daniel Pitts told NBC Dallas that he was on his way to Fort Lauderdale on American Airlines flight 422 when a pilot told them that the control tower was not working due to Covid-19. The passengers were allowed to board and return to the terminal.

The stop at DFW and Love field was lifted at 5.30pm local time, although both airports said they would expect further delays.
