The Lions technically can’t talk for a few more weeks about acquiring Jared Goff. But if there’s anyone in Detroit who knows Goff well, it’s the general manager of the club.

Brad Holmes was the Rams’ director of college scouting from 2013-2020, meaning he was involved with the club that Goff set up. During his Tuesday press conference, he danced around without mentioning the name of the quarterback, while also discussing what he could mean for the Lions’ off-season.

“Obviously I have a lot of knowledge,” Holmes said. ‘But if I have a veteran full-back, it can of course make decisions in terms of my familiarity with him, because I know what works best for him. What do you like [are], which he strives for, it does help to shape things from a team building point of view, in terms of adding tools, adding pieces that fit his skill. “

Goff was a Pro Bowl pick for his 2017 and 2018 seasons. But his performance dropped in 2019 and 2020, which was one factor that led to the agreement that would send him to Detroit and Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles.
