- It also revealed that a model of the Tencent brand is underway.
We all expected the Asus ROG Phone 4 to be launched later this year, but the first photos that leaked suggested that the Taiwanese brand might skip a number this year. Now Asus has confirmed on Weibo (h / t: MySmartPrice) that this is indeed the case.

This is not the first time we have seen a smartphone brand skip the number four, as OnePlus is also moving from OnePlus 3 and 3T to OnePlus 5. For what it’s worth, the number four in several Asian countries is becoming an unlucky number regard. It’s unclear if that’s why Asus is skipping the number.
It would also not be the first time we see a Tencent-supported ROG phone variant, as we have seen it before with the ROG phone 2 and 3. These variants are usually cheaper than the standard ROG phone models, but over generally limited to China. In any case, the confirmation of the ROG Phone 5 name indicates that a launch is imminent.
