Anthony Hopkins shares the message of hope via Twitter video as he celebrates 45 years of sobriety

He is considered one of the biggest stars of the stage and screen.

And on Tuesday, the day he celebrated 45 years of austerity, Anthony Hopkins delivered a personal message via Twitter to all those struggling with addiction during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Stay there,” he urged. “Be brave and mighty forces will come to your aid.”

The Welsh-born actor, who now lives in Malibu, shot the black-and-white video message while standing in front of the bookshelf at his home.

He begins his message by acknowledging that “it has been a difficult year, full of sadness and grief for many, many, many people.”

Then Hopkins, who turns 83 on Thursday, told a wake-up call today ’45 years ago. I was on my way to disaster. I drank myself to death.

I got a little thought and said, ‘Do you want to live or die? “I said I wanted to live. And suddenly the relief came and my life was amazing. ‘

The Oscar winner admitted that he still has ‘days’ and ‘doubts’, but stressed that he needs to stay strong.

Hopkins started in the British theater in 1960 and got his big breakthrough internationally in the historical drama The Lion In Winter in 1968 opposite Peter O’Toole and Katharine Hepburn.

Hopkins was a bit of a helper as a young man and admitted that he was ‘drunk’ and ‘angry’ early in his career.

In 1975, at the age of 38, however, he committed himself to sobriety and continued the course.
