Adobe officially launches Photoshop for Apple M1 and says it’s 50% faster

Adobe today officially launched Photoshop for Apple’s M1 chip. According to the company, the ARM-compatible version should deliver ‘significant performance gains’ for users on Apple’s personal silicone.

While Adobe a beta version of Photoshop for M1 has been available since November, this is the first time it has been widely available. Previously, Apple users could use the Intel version through Apple’s Rosetta technology, which did not take full advantage of the power of the new chip.

The M1 version of the app, Adobe claims, offers a 50% performance improvement over analog Intel Macs:

Our internal tests show a wide range of features that average 1.5 times the speed of previous generation systems. Our tests covered a wide range of activities, including opening and saving files, using filters, and computer-heavy operations such as Content-Aware Fill and Select Subject, all of which feel noticeably faster. Our early benchmarking also shows that some operations are going significantly faster with the new chip.

Be warned that some recent features are missing in the M1 version of the app, and especially to invite others to modify cloud documents and do preset syncing.

It’s not clear how much faster the M1 version would be compared to current Intel chips, but it’s clear that Adobe sees the benefit of moving to ARM architecture. “Do not blink. You can miss the launch of the splash screen, ‘says Adobe
