Robin Lehner turned on the microphone today during the Golden Knights Zoom Media Media Availability. He answered a few questions and decided, without asking a question, to give a message about the way the NHL handles COVID protocols after players have received the vaccination.

I want to address a few things here without stepping on someone’s toes or what not. I feel I have a responsibility to say something here to myself and to other people in the league.

When I came back from my concussion, we were approached to take the vaccine, and basically how it turns out that we have shown that the vaccines are available if a number of players in this team take the vaccine that is going to do a new set of rules. come out. We showed the NBA protocols, the NBA protocols promise to get some kind of normality back.

COVID is dangerous, it was a crazy thing for everyone, but we were approached and promised that things would change for our league if we were vaccinated. So after our second vaccination, ten days later, we are going to start enjoying life again. People do not really know, we were in total isolation, we can not get out of our house, we can not leave our hotel and it is now more than a year and no one ever talks about the mental health aspect of those things .

To be promised, something is going to change if you take a vaccine and some players were about to take it, I was one of them, I was not sure, but I took it for my mental health. Now we did it and they changed, now they say it does not happen. I think it’s wrong.

Then yesterday I had a few calls with the league and with the NHLPA and so I wanted to speak today. It makes me angry and I do not care what someone is going to do to me in the league or not, I do not know. They told me yesterday that they are investigating all the teams to see who took the vaccine and who did not, and that they are not going to change the rules for us as players until all the teams have had the vaccines at the same time. a competitive advantage. It drove me crazy to be honest. It shows me that I have now taken the vaccine and that it has been a tremendously difficult time for me through this COVID thing with my mental health condition and that they are talking about competitive advantage instead of human lives. We are people too.

I have to give credit when credit is due, the NHL has done a lot of good things too. I like this league, I do not want to destroy anything, I want this league to do well.

It made me really disappointed and emotional last night, and it was a lie to our face, do it, and you will get it and now it does not happen because of the competitive advantage. Where was the competitive advantage for the Vancouver Canucks when they wanted three, three and a half weeks and they got one practice and played one of the best teams in the league in Toronto? Competitive lead when Washington takes away three of their best players and they still play? We lost one player and they quarantined us for one week, where was the competitive advantage?

Here’s a dual issue for me. The first one is that we promised something to take something that not everyone necessarily wanted, it was a lie, a blatant lie. Second, to place competitive advantage over human lives.

It’s about the league as a whole, it’s about accountability. This is about how they are not going to be sued when it comes to a person’s health. When the government, companies, NHL, whoever makes decisions in terms of irrelevant things like competitive advantage over man, it is not good.

We’ve been vaccinated and are we still going to be trapped in a prison? We are being lied to about things that are changing and forcing us to take the vaccine. Unacceptable. And now that we’re using the vaccine to have the excuse to say ‘no, we’re not changing for competitive advantage’ is outrageous. -Robin Lehner
