COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – At least one person was killed in an accident involving a scooter in Colorado Springs on Monday.
The accident was reported just before 4pm at the intersection of N. Academy and Maizeland Road. The area is near the southeast side of Palmer Park.
The intersection was open again at about 18:45
According to police, the scooter was driving south on N. Academy Boulevard when it hit a sports utility vehicle that was stopped in traffic for the red light at Maizeland Road. Investigators do not believe the driver of the SUV was under the influence and it is not clear if the scooter was racing during the accident. The driver of the scooter died at the scene.
The investigation continues.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Police originally reported that the motorcycle was involved in the crash. Since it was an evolving story, the police learned that it was in fact a scooter. This article has been updated to reflect the most accurate information per police.
