Federal regulators have released a terrifying video of a child being dragged under a Peloton Tread + – as it warned consumers with children and pets to immediately stop using the exercise machine.
The video, shared by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Saturday, shows a young boy playing near a Peloton treadmill when the ball he uses is trapped under the equipment and pulled under it.
In the clip, the boy struggles to free himself from the $ 4,295 exercise machine.
The safety commission said on Saturday that it was aware of 39 incidents involving the treadmill, including one child who died.
“CPSC staff believe the Peloton Tread + poses serious risks to children due to abrasions, fractures and death,” the agency said.
“In light of several reports of children being trapped, pinned and pulled under the back roll of the product, CPSC is appealing to consumers with children at home to stop the product immediately.”
Peloton customers who continue to use machines should keep them away from children and pets in a closed room, as well as unplug them when not in use, and keep all other objects away from them. the agency said.
Meanwhile, Peloton said in a statement that the Security Commission’s warning was “inaccurate and misleading.”
“Peloton is disappointed that CPSC, despite the fact that the Tread + meets all applicable safety standards, was not prepared to engage in meaningful discussions with Peloton before its inaccurate and misleading press release was issued,” the statement said. .
It added that “there is no reason to stop using the Tread + as long as all warnings and safety instructions are followed.”
