According to a CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins data, Michigan once again reported the highest daily new infections per capita. On Monday, the director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, dr. Rochelle Walensky, said the state ‘needs to’ close business’ because it is dealing with the boom and that a boost in Covid-19 vaccinations alone will not stop the spread of the virus.
Michigan picks up nearly 7,300 daily new cases daily, close to the state’s pandemic of more than 8,300 a day in December. Hospitalizations and deaths are also increasing in the state.

The latest trend in death tolls is being influenced by a massive data release of about 1,800 deaths from Oklahoma, which occurred as the Oklahoma Department of Health switched to guidelines for reporting data in accordance with CDC requirements. These deaths are currently all reported on April 7, even though they have occurred before.
Prior to this report, the daily Covid mortality rate in the US pulled down from the record levels seen in January.
US vaccine shots given
CDC data show 2.6 million submitted vaccine doses administered on Monday, bringing the average of seven days of reported doses in the US to a record 3.2 million per day.

The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday said it was asking states to temporarily halt the use of Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine “out of caution” after six women in the U.S. developed a rare blood clotting disorder.
“At present, it appears that these adverse events are extremely rare,” the FDA said in a joint statement with the CDC.
American part of the vaccinated population
More than 120 million people, or 36% of the U.S. population, have received one or more doses of Covid vaccine. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 5 Americans is fully vaccinated.
