The 94-mile Tesla Model 3 Series from Canada is now being advertised

It’s hard to believe that Tesla should sell a Model 3 with only 151 km of driving, but that’s exactly what he did in Canada. In the past, this version was hidden, but now it is advertised on Tesla’s Canadian ordering site.

There’s a good reason for Tesla to offer this low-range model: customer tax incentives. The Government of Canada has created a $ 5,000 tax incentive for the purchase of a new EV in 2019, but the base price should be below $ 45,000 and not cost more than $ 55,000 with options. All Teslas did not qualify because all the models started at over $ 45,000 at the time.

That’s why Tesla dropped the price to $ 44,999 to qualify, calling it the Model 3 Standard Range. The ordering site has $ 46,389 as price, but that includes the destination, air conditioning and OMVIC fees.

To lower the price, the Tesla software closed the battery pack to 151 km (94 miles) and removed Autopilot. But you can still add Autopilot for $ 4,000 and a self-driving capability (FSD) for $ 10,600.

Canada's Tesla Model 3 Series and 94-mile performance

Tesla claims that the standard-range standard range has the same 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds as the Standard Range Plus model with a driving distance of 423 km. The top speed of 140 km / h (225 km / h) is also the same between the two models.

Very few Canadian customers opted for the Standard Range because it was not advertised and only those who knew about it ordered it. Now that it’s being advertised, I’m curious how much more is going to sell there.

94 miles is not much, but many do not need as much range and can live without Autopilot if it allows them to afford a new Model 3 after the tax incentive.
