Hundreds of thousands of Spectrum customers in Maine and New Hampshire lost Internet and other services for about two hours on Monday night due to fiber breaks, the company said.
The internet, cable and telephone service declined around 6pm, the company said and the service was restored around 8pm. Spectrum has more than 440,000 residential and business clients in Maine, and all are affected, a company spokesman said.
Problems started at 6pm when customers lost their internet connections.
“We are aware of an issue that is currently affecting Spectrum customers in Maine,” Spectrum tweeted just before 6 p.m. ‘We work diligently to restore your service as soon as possible and apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience. “
A company spokesman said fiber breaks caused the outage.

“We have identified two separate fiber breaks in our network that affect the services for Spectrum customers in Maine and New Hampshire,” Heidi Vandenbrouck said in an email Monday night. “These separate interruptions have affected our redundant path, which normally serves as backup, when an interruption or damage is incurred in a part of the network.”
The interruptions forced, among other things, the postponement of a virtual meeting of Portland City Council until April 12.
Vandenbrouck later said service to Maine and New Hampshire was diverted to reconnect customers as soon as possible, but workers are still repairing the outages that caused the outage.
Meanwhile, Spectrum customers have taken to the company’s Ask Spectrum platform, a virtual account that can answer questions about services, products and individual accounts to air their complaints and concerns.
