A Maryland man is charged with reckless driving and 90 mph in a 35 mph area after drivers stopped traffic on the Capital Beltway on Saturday so a driver could make donuts in the middle of the highway.
Jonathan C. Iraheta, 20, of Beltsville, was charged with six counts of traffic offenses and fines of more than $ 1,800, Maryland police said Monday.
A series of cars stopped traffic on the outer loop of the Beltway for a few minutes around 7pm on Saturday, WTOP footage showed.
The driver of a sports car repeatedly made donuts when several people watched on foot and even came close to the car. Other drivers spun their rear wheels and sent smoke across the highway while a long line of drivers waited to get going.
Police received several calls on Saturday night in which they reported that drivers in high-performance vehicles were blocking the road and turning wheels, police said in a statement.
A troop was immediately sent to the scene and other police agencies were called in to help, police said.
When the troop responded, police in Prince George received a call in which they reported that the group was on Route 212. The troop moved to the scene and saw an orange Dodge Charger being recklessly operated on the western Rt in 2020. 212 on I-95. ”
The soldier stopped the driver, Iraheta, and issued quotes for: 90 km per hour in a placed area of 35 km / h, reckless driving, negligent driving, aggressive driving due to too narrow and unsafe track change.
The soldier found that a temporary label on the car “apparently changed in an attempt to hide the actual number of the number.” Police seized the vehicle pending investigation.
Police said they could not confirm whether Iraheta was the driver who made donuts on the Beltway; he was charged with violations on Route 212, not there, a spokesman said.
It was not clear if Iraheta had a lawyer.
Maryland police say a repression of fast and reckless driving is underway. Hundreds of quotes have been issued. Police raided dangerous drivers.
‘It is clear that management behavior on the Capital Beltway and Rt. 212 yesterday is illegal, dangerous and a total disregard for the safety and comfort of others on the highway. “Maryland State Police will continue to take immediate and rigorous enforcement action where possible when these incidents occur,” police said.
