NHL investigating referee after comment on penalty shootout against Predators

What happened?

Adam Vingan, Predators beat writer: The predator Arvidsson was incredible after stumbling for Merrill, the defender of Red Wings, early in the second period. The repetition seems to support his response. Predators’ television analyst Chris Mason went so far as to call it a dive from Merrill.

The Predators killed Arvidsson’s penalty goal and won 2-0, but the exciting moment hangs over the game.

What’s next?

Vingan: Make-up calls are an unspoken part of the game, but referees are rarely caught to discuss it openly. The NHL is investigating the incident, and it is unclear how Peel could be disciplined if the league did. In honor of Predators coach John Hynes, he handled the situation diplomatically after the game and praised his players for not letting the call affect them.
