447 more COVID-19 cases, 17 deaths, 31K vaccinations were reported in Utah on Friday

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 447 on Friday, with another 17 deaths and 31,146 vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

Twelve of the deaths reported Friday occurred before Feb. 19, but according to the health department, they were still being investigated by medical investigators.

The Department of Health estimates that there are 11,063 active COVID-19 cases in Utah. According to the Department of Health, the average number of positive cases of seven days per day is now 474. The positive test rate per day for the period reported using the “people over people” method is now 8.3%. The positive test rate per day of seven days, calculated using the ‘test over test’ method, is now 4.2%.

There are now 176 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, including 61 in intensive care, state data show. About 73% of all beds for intensive care units in Utah are filled, including about 76% of the ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals, according to the Department of Health. About 55% of the non-ICU hospital beds are currently occupied.

A total of 1111185 doses of vaccines were administered in the state, compared to 1,080,039 on Thursday. A total of 737,243 Utahns have now received at least one vaccine dose, while 402,988 have been fully vaccinated. A total of 1,300,120 doses of vaccine have now been sent to Utah.

The new numbers point to a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,320,720 people tested so far for COVID-19 in Utah, 16.4% tested positive for COVID-19. The number of total tests since the pandemic began now stands at 4,082,117, an increase of 15,565 since Thursday. Of these, 5,967 tests were performed on people not previously tested for COVID-19.

The 17 deaths reported on Friday were:

  • A man from Cache County who was over 85 and a resident of a long-term care facility
  • A Davis County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was admitted to the hospital when he died
  • A Davis County man who was between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized when he died
  • An Iron County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was admitted to the hospital when he died
  • A Salt Lake County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was admitted to the hospital when he died
  • A Salt Lake County man who was between 18 and 24 and was hospitalized when he died
  • A Salt Lake County man over the age of 85 who was a resident of a long-term care facility
  • A man from Tooele County who was over 85 and was admitted to hospital when he died
  • Two Washington County men between the ages of 65 and 84 who were hospitalized when they died
  • A Cache County woman who was between 25 and 44 years old and was hospitalized when she died
  • Three women in Salt Lake County who were between 65 and 84 and hospitalized when they died
  • A Uintah County woman between 45 and 64 years old and hospitalized when she died
  • A Washington woman who was between 65 and 84 years old and was admitted to the hospital when she died
  • A Weber County woman who was between 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when she died

Friday’s total gives Utah 380,787 total confirmed cases, with 15,241 total hospitalizations and 2,058 total deaths due to the disease. A total of 369,666 COVID-19 cases are now considered recovery, according to the Department of Health.

The Utah government, Spencer Cox, provided an update to COVID-19 at a news conference on Thursday.
